EV Driver payment options

We offer multiple ways to access and pay for EV charging sessions: via RFID Card, Web Pay, Evolt Network App, through our Roaming Partners or where applicable Contactless options.

How to charge using the Evolt Network App

The Evolt Network App can also be used for one-off charging sessions — no account signup required.

Steps:

  • Download and sign up to the Evolt Network App

  • When at the charge point use the App to search for the charge point by its CPID (displayed on the unit, e.g. SECXXXXX)
  • Select the unit and socket you want to use
  • Enter your card details to begin the charge
    (A pre-authorisation fee applies*)

End the session through the App. The final cost will be deducted within an hour, if not instantly

How to use the Evolt Network RFID card

You can apply for an RFID card here

Steps:

  • Tap the RFID card on the charger to start and stop charging sessions.
  • All usage is tracked in the Evolt Network App, where users can monitor sessions, view invoices, and manage payments. Fleet operators can also opt for monthly billing. See details above to access the Evolt Network App.

Additionally, your Evolt Network RFID card provides access to both the ChargePlace Scotland and PoGo Charge networks, allowing you to charge across the UK with a single, convenient card.

WebPay

How to use WebPay:

Once payment is confirmed, the session can begin. The final charge will be billed through Stripe, our secure payment provider.

Contactless/ Pay As You Go

Our public charge points 8kW + and above deployed after 24 November 2024 and all public charge points of 50kW and above offer contactless payment.

Contactless payment or Pay As You Go (PAYG) works with your bank card, Apple Pay or Google Pay where a contactless reader is installed – simply tap your card to start and stop the charge.

(a pre-authorisation applies*)

Roaming options on the Evolt Network

We are proud to partner with well-established fuel card and fleet service providers including All-Star, Octopus Electroverse, Zap-Map, and Paua.

Thanks to OCPI interoperability, members of these eMobility Service Providers (eMSP) can use our Evolt Network, ChargePlace Scotland and PoGo Charge chargers seamlessly—no need to download an additional App or register payment details again. Users can just tap their existing card, and billing is handled directly by their eMSP.

Additional payment key facts

Pre-authorisation

When you use any method of payment, other than our Evolt Network RFID card to charge, we will carry out a ‘pre-auth’ transaction on your card/chosen payment method prior to a session taking place.

AC Charging

This pre-auth will check the card/payment method is active and reserve up to £35* from your balance. Once the session complete, we will capture the funds from your account, releasing the hold on any amount remaining from your pre-auth.

For example, we may pre-authorise £35. If your session is £17, we will capture £17 and cancel the remaining pre-auth amount. This can take up to between 5-7 working days.

DC Charging

Having checked the validity of the card/payment method, the system will take an initial pre-authorisation at the start of the session, and once the session ends, the exact charge amount is captured and subsequently, the difference between the charge and the pre-auth value is released back to the customer.

Most EV charging networks use a pre-authorisation process, similar to the system used at pay-at-pump petrol stations. This approach helps prevent payment issues such as charge point misuse or drive-offs by securing funds before a charging session begins.

*Please note that pre-authorisation amounts vary across our network.

Stripe

In 2024, we partnered with Stripe, a world-leading payment service provider, to deliver a more efficient and streamlined payment experience across all of our in-house payment methods—including the Evolt Network App, WebPay, and Evolt Network RFID cards.

As the Evolt Network grows, this integration enables instant payments using popular methods such as credit/debit cards, Google Pay, and Apple Pay. Making it easy for EV Drivers to use our Network.

Key benefits include:

  • Flexible Payment Options: Users can now switch from direct debit mandates to convenient “pay now” transactions.
  • Enhanced Security: Stripe’s industry-leading security infrastructure ensures robust protection of user financial data.
